A UK version of a travel website that independently searches for flights without charging agents' fees has been launched.
By giving people a range of choices, including the option to view prices from specific airlines and rule others out, the website helps travellers track down the best fares and routes.
Kayak, which originally launched in the US, searches flights from 404 travel sites including British Airways, Alitalia, and bmi, low-cost carriers such Easyjet and Ryanair and online travel agencies. Because all flights are booked directly with airlines and operator there are also no additional agents' fees.
Kayak also searches airports in driving distance of up to 75 miles and compares prices for non-stop and two or more stops. Once the traveller has a list of results they can keep the selection in sight until they decide what they want to do.
The website also has other user-generated comparison sections. The ‘Kayak Buzz’ section shows the lowest fares to the 25 most popular destinations that have been found by other holidaymakers.
The Best Fare History section gives travellers the 100 best prices found by other Kayak users searching the same route over the past 36 hours. The Best Fare Trend Graph charts pricing for city/date pairs found by users over the past 90 days making it clear if prices are about to soar or crash.
An online forum allows users to share and request travel tips, stories and get more information about destinations.
