Yorkshire partnership becomes LLP

The firm became an LLP today, after deciding to 'practice what it preached' and will trade as Horwath Clark Whitehill (Yorkshire) LLP. It has told 'dozens' of its clients to make use of the Limited Liability Partnership Act.

Mike Jackson, managing partner at the firm, said the benefits of taking on LLP status had not yet been fully appreciated by smaller businesses.

'Now there is more certainty over the accounting requirements for LLPs, which broadly mirror the accounting requirements for limited companies, proprietors are more willing to consider LLP status as a real,' the firm said in a statement.

To date all of the Big Four, excluding Deloitte & Touche, have taken on LLP status. Deloittes is scheduled to take on the new legal status sometime this summer.

Smith & Williamson and RSM Robson Rhodes are the other mid-tier firms to take on LLP status to date.
