PC help: Password problems

Q I recently bought a new Palm TX handheld computer but have had trouble setting it up. It asked for a password but when I tried to enter one, only stars appeared. This happens even if I press the reset button and so I cannot use the device.

A The stars that appear do so to stop anyone from finding out your password by looking over at the handheld computer when the password is being entered. So they do not mean that there is a mistake, although extra care is needed if entering the password using the stylus rather than the onscreen keyboard.

It is not clear from the question whether or not the password request described is part of the initial set-up or the password to enter the device. In either case try the password you tried in the first place.

It this does not work, the only way to use the device is to completely reset the handheld computer back to its factory settings. This process should be the same for all Palm handheld computers but check with the manual for other models. Press and hold the power button. Without releasing the power button, use the tip of the stylus to press the reset button briefly.

When the Palm logo appears on the screen let go of the power button. A confirmation message will appear. If you are sure about deleting all of the information on the handheld, press up on the navigator button.
Press any other button to perform a soft reset that does not affect any data. Once the device has been reset, follow the setup wizard again.
